Using Twitter For Community Building , Customer Support & Networking.

As we go about our daily lives, social media has noticeably become such a great part of it. We get to make friends, network with people in our respective industries, interact with brands that we love and consume and get to stay up-to-date with all necessary information. Different platforms offer different value points that take time to understand and leverage for maximum value.

Over the past couple of months Twitter has grown to be my favorite platform. I get to share my thoughts on Digital Marketing and engage in conversations around it. I'm a firm believer of making each day a learning experience. The beauty of the platform is that you are not limited to how many times you tweet or better yet engage within a day. Different people across the world who resonate with 280 characters or less of what you share on your timeline.

' Community is one thing that's not for sale. It must be earned through authentic relationships. ' ~Jessika Phillips

The article breaks down how Twitter is a great tool for Community Building, Customer Support & Networking. Digital Marketer Janet Machuka shares more;

COMMUNITY BUILDING

Twitter is not the only social media platforms that you might have used for personal and business growth since we have a couple of other useful social media platforms. But it is right to say that one can build a community easily given the right approach from content strategy to engagement of people.

Why use Twitter for community building:

  • It is easy to connect people on Twitter by use of its’ Twitter Search and hashtags. This works well when you’re in search of people with similar interests.
  • We have a lot of Tweet Chat communities on the platforms. Find the right ones, be part of it, engage with people who are part of it, follow them and they will follow back. In the process, you will be growing your brand’s community too.
  • Every time a crisis happens.
  • The Twitter hashtag: We have witnessed many brands using branded hashtags to reach out to their audiences. Hashtags bring a brand’s customer or audience together. It is easier to follow through a brand’s information about its products and services on the tweets using a hashtag than use of keywords.
  • Twitter has a great way of singling out ‘Topics to Follow.’ This helps one to be able to engage with the topics of interests. As you engage with such content, you’ll be expanding your community as some of the people will follow you. If you don’t know how to set your Topics to follow on Twitter, use these steps (on mobile):

  1. Go to your Twitter and click on your profile photo. You’ll see options
  2. Click on ‘Topics.’ You’ll see suggested topics.
  3. Follow topics of interest.
  4. You can also click on more to check all the topics
  5. Such topics will be showing below the Trends section.

CUSTOMER SUPPORT

If you want to exercise promptness, immediacy and faster spread of your brand’s information in fewer but effective posts, go to Twitter.

  • In this digital era when most people can easily afford internet and smartphones, it is easier to share your feedback on twitter and be attended to in a matter of seconds as compared to the other platforms. Quick and Immediate Responses: Most customers now use Twitter for customer service. They want to be responded to in time and Twitter does that perfectly. No brand wants a communication crisis on Twitter, hence more and more brands using the platform for feedback.
  • Every time there’s a brand crisis, people run to Twitter to verify if the information is true. This is because Twitter’s algorithm of Trending hot stories and news makes it easier for brand’s audiences to counter check responses from brands and claims from its audience or customers.
  • 280 Characters:  Day in day out, we have thousands of people joining social media platforms. Everyone wants to be heard, listened to and engaged. The fact that Twitter has fewer characters on a single post makes communication short, quick, precise and understandable. Customers and audiences of any brand or company want exactly that kind of commutation.

NETWORKING TOOL

Everyone wants to build a meaningful network and Twitter makes it easier to do it through these ways:

  • Creating Twitter Lists
  • Joining and requesting to be a guest in relevant Tweet Chats
  • Doing your research on the Topics you have followed on Twitter
  • The easiness to join conversations and add your opinion that can be seen by others can easily open doors to the right connections
  • Twitter’s Retweet and Quoted Tweet features make it easy for tweets to be viral in seconds. Such helpful Tweets can lead to referrals, Direct messages or possible partnerships

Do you have a Twitter account yet? I advice you create one and take each day to engage and make the most of the features the platform has to offer; Lists, Moments, Thread, Bookmark. Lists are great for combining a group of people to whom you have similar interests with and do not want to miss out on what they share. It is also ideal to keep tabs with competitors. Threads allows you to share a series of information, ideally if your thoughts are more than 280 characters. It is great for a continuing series and sharing tips. Bookmark lets you save a tweet that you'd like to reference later. The feature is helpful to save informative articles. Which is your favorite Twitter feature?

A recent update, fleets is what I'm yet to dive into. Have you tried it yet?  Are you enjoying it?

Social Media Marketing Vs Influencer Marketing.

Every marketing channel a business chooses to grow into is definitely driven by certain objective's; create brand awareness, customer acquisition, customer retention. However to be able to achieve all this there has to be content readily available for your client/customer otherwise how will you keep people on your platforms engaged.   Social Media Marketing is solely built on the content you create and your ability to engage with your existing and potential client(s).  Most reliable channel I would recommend to startups because once you've got content and make posts consistently you are making it easier for people who would be interested in your brand to find you. Put in mind that as you post inlude keywords that a potential client would use to find your product/service. It will be of great value to build up content that sets a position for you on organic search rather than using Pay Per Click (PPC) where you pay to be on that position i.e. Google AdWords and once you ...
